GOVT AGREES WITH WORKERS ON AMENDMENT TO SOCIAL INSURANCE

He said that it would put the proposal on the National Assembly agenda meeting next month.

Under the Social Security Law, which takes effect next year, labourers cannot receive one-off social-insurance payments until they retire after quitting their last jobs.

Payments are only made at retirement age, which is 60 years for males and 55 for women.

Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Doan Mau Diep said the new law was meant to help workers have a monthly income after retirement.

It would also encourage them to keep on paying social insurance payments until they retire.

Last Thursday, workers at Taiwanese Pou Yuen Company Ltd in HCM City's Binh Tan District - a leather and footwear company - went on strike to show their disagreement with the new regulation.

Ministerial representatives, including the deputy minister Diep met with the labourers early this week to listen their concerns and explain the law.

More than 70,000 Pou Yuen workers resumed work yesterday as soon as seeing response from Government.

ĐÀ NẴNG GREEN-LIGHTS US$105 MILLION THAI DEVELOPMENT DEAL

The central city has approved an investment proposal by Thailand’s WHA Group to develop infrastructure for the 400ha WHA Đà Nẵng Industrial Park project on two communes of Thăng Bình and Đồng Dương, with an investment of more than VNĐ2.7 trillion (US$105 million). The city said it approved WHA Industrial Development International's status as an investor in the project, which is expected to take place between 2027 and 2034.

MOBILE PHONE EXPORTS RISE 20% TO $51.8 BILLION IN FIRST NINE MONTHS

Exports of mobile phones and components rose 20 per cent year-on-year to nearly US$51.8 billion in the first nine months of 2026, with China, the US and Republic of Korea accounting for more than half of the total. Shipments to the three markets reached a combined $26.18 billion, or 50.6 per cent of total exports of the product group during the period, according to data from the Vietnam Department of Customs under the Ministry of Finance.
